Shared Adventures with Crew 2112: Where Tabletop Quests Meet Real-World Adventure
Imagine a place where your party’s epic tabletop campaign spills out into the real world—where you roll dice one weekend, kayak a river the next, and spend the one after that serving veterans in your own community. That is the spirit of Crew 2112, a Scouting America Venturing crew based in Herndon, Virginia, welcoming youth ages 14–20 who are ready to chart their own course.
If you love storytelling, strategy, service, fresh air, or all of the above, Crew 2112 is a space where you can bring your whole self, try new things, and grow alongside friends who cheer you on. Think of it as a shared campaign: you choose your path, but you never have to travel it alone.
Why “Crew 2112”?
Our name nods to a classic sci-fi rock album that celebrates individuality, curiosity, and pushing past what people expect of you. We carry that energy into everything we do. In Crew 2112, you are more than a spectator. You help decide where we go, what we try, and how we show up for others.
Whether you’re a seasoned Scout, a tabletop game master, an outdoor newbie, or just someone who likes doing meaningful things with good people, there is room for you here. You set your own goals and pace; we provide a crew ready to explore with you.
Tabletop Worlds, Real Friendships
At the heart of Crew 2112 is a shared love of games and stories. We gather around the table to roll dice, strategize, and build worlds together. You might lead a campaign, join someone else’s story, or dive into a new system you have never tried before.
Tabletop gaming here is more than just winning or losing. It is about teamwork, creativity, and listening to every voice at the table. You will practice leadership by running sessions, learn to communicate clearly, and discover how to welcome new players so everyone feels included and heard.
And yes—we have a lot of laughs along the way. Plot twists, critical successes, "that one time the plan actually worked" stories? Those are all part of the adventure.
Service: Standing Beside Our Community and Veterans
Venturing is about more than just what you get out of it; it is also about what you give. Crew 2112 is committed to practical, hands-on service—especially in support of veterans and our local community.
That might look like helping with local events, supporting veteran-focused programs, or pitching in on service projects where extra hands make a real difference. You will learn how to plan and lead projects, work as a team, and see the impact of your efforts right here in Herndon and beyond.
You do not have to show up knowing everything. We learn together, step by step, as we figure out how best to serve the people around us.
High Adventure: Leveling Up in the Outdoors
Tabletop quests are great—but some adventures are best experienced under real stars. As a Venturing crew, Crew 2112 explores the outdoors through trips and activities that challenge us in the best ways.
Depending on what the crew chooses, that could mean hiking new trails, backpacking, paddling, climbing, or other high adventure experiences. You help shape our calendar, so every trip reflects the interests and comfort levels of the youth in the crew. Along the way, you build skills in planning, safety, and outdoor leadership that carry over into every part of life.
You do not have to be an expert or an athlete to join us. If you are willing to try, learn, and support your fellow crew members, you are ready to start.
Choose Your Path, Share the Journey
One of the best parts of Venturing is that it is youth-led. Crew 2112 is built around the idea that young people can and should make real decisions. You help set goals, plan activities, and shape the culture of the crew.
Maybe you want to develop your leadership skills, try out public speaking, or learn how to run a complex event. Maybe you are more comfortable behind the scenes, quietly making sure things run smoothly. Maybe you just want a safe, welcoming place to be yourself. All of those paths are valid here.
Along the way, you will discover strengths you did not know you had, supported by adults who are there to mentor and encourage rather than take over. Parents and guardians can feel confident that youth are exploring, experimenting, and growing within a structured, values-based Scouting America program.
